Dawn Ferguson came to our school and taught us a song in Hawaiian and we translated it into Irish. She brought lots of instruments and let us tone a bowl that she had. It made an echo sound through the room. She used to be a trainer for dolphins and whales and swam with them. One time when she was singing with a school in Hawaii, dolphins followed the sound of her music. She taught us about peace and helped us to understand that we are very lucky with our lives. She told us to be thankful for the things we have in life like our mothers and fathers, our friends and all of our family. She made a video of us singing our song and performing our dance. She videoed the art we did to show the next school she was going to visit. At the end of the visit we sang to the plants and the earth in our garden of our school. This is a piece of our song:
In Hawaiin it was:
Heiwa, Heiwa, Heiwa, Heiwa
Childern singing peace.
In Irish it was:
Síocháin, Síocháin, Síocháin, Síocháin
Paistí ag canadh faoí síocháin.
In English it was:
Peace, Peace, Peace, Peace
Childern singing peace.
At the end of her stay she gave each class a red rose as a class symbol of peace and love. We buried it in our garden when it withered. We really enjoyed this special experience.
