The Silk Road was the main trade route from China to Europe in ancient times. It was on this road that merchants and adventurers met with each other and drew knowledge from East to West and from West to East. This created a wider more modern world view.
From the East came silks, roses, tea, spices, gunpowder and religions such as Buddhism. From the West came pasta, spices and the idea of individualism. Christianity, Judaism and Islam also came from the West. The Silk Road still exists today, still bridging East and West.
Sixth class studied Ancient China in history this year. We created Powerpoint presentations on all the Ancient China topics we studied. We visited the Ancient China section in the Chester Beatty library where we saw how paper was made in China long ago. We saw ancient Chinese artifacts which helped us imagine what it would have been like to live back in ancient Chinese times.
In February we presented pieces of art based on the theme of the Silk Road to the Chester Beatty Library.
