The Writing Process

We use the writing process daily. We have writing folders full of ideas, drafts and finished stories and poems. We choose our own topics to write about. We proofread our stories using a writing checklist to help us. We also use the reader response approach where we swap our stories or poems with a classmate and they proofread and advise us on ways to improve our work and they comment on what they like about the story too.

"The writing process makes us better writers. Proof reading helps us correct mistakes." – Gillian

"It is easier to write stories about your own ideas because you want to write about them. Good readers become good writers." – Lisa

"I learn from my mistakes every week and I try to improve in my next story." – Shauna.

"The more we read the more we use our imaginations when we write." – Shauna

"Writing stories makes us use our imagination and we can escape from real life." – Aishling

"I like to see my stories typed up and published. It inspires me to keep on writing." – Serena

Warning by Kellie

When I am an old woman I shall get a free hearing aid and never wear it.

And I shall have a garage full of newspapers.

And say that the prices of things have changed and that they are ridiculous .

And I shall wear green with brown and think that I’m the biz.

And when it is windy out I shall wear a skirt and let it blow up in the air.

I can’t wait to grow up and do all of these things.

But maybe I ought to wear a skirt and let it blow up in the air so I don’t get too cold when suddenly I’m old.

The Deep Blue Sea by Natalie Boyd

The deep blue sea

Is sad and still,

It’s a quiet place to be,

It helps when I’m alone and sad,

It’s the place I want to be

It brings me joy and makes me

Happy. Once I sat nearby

the sea watching the fish go

Right around side to side,

I’d like to stay but there is no way,

The tide is getting higher,

I set to sea and say goodbye.
