King of The Claddagh

My grandfather was the King of Claddagh. The people of Claddagh voted to have him King in 1972. To become king you need to know the history of The Claddagh and to be respected by all the people. As King he had to go to various meetings and functions in Galway. He was a great historian so he was able to speak to the different tourists who came to see him. He reigned until he died 5 years ago. The present king is Michael Lynskey who was chosen because of his great knowledge of fishing and sailing in The Claddagh. Michael will be leading the way in this year's Blessing of the Bay.

Scoil an Chladaigh

We decided to write a song about the area and the school for a competition. We got everybody to write a few lines at home and put it together at school with the help of the teachers. Mr. Forde, our principal, and Yvonne, our Home School Liaison teacher, composed the music for the song. We recorded the song on tape and made a video of it. This is the song and we hope you like it.

Chorus
Scoil an Chladaigh is í mo scoil-se
Scoil an Chladaigh cois na trá
Scoil an Chladaigh is í mo scoil-se
An Cladach tréan go brach

Our school by the ocean
Is all that our hearts can dream of
Our school by the ocean
Where we share our dreams and visions

As we wonder there
With friends to care
We all feel good just as we should
We've got no more to wish for

Chorus
Scoil an Chlaidaigh is í mo scoil-se
Scoil an Chladaigh cois na trá
Scoil an Chladaigh is í mo scoil-se
An Cladach tréan go brách

Our famed Claddagh ring
Is a symbol of friendship and love
The heart hands and crown
Link all of the world with our town
