Young Player of the Year - 1995

Since its inception, a number of years ago, this award has seen many fine players win it.

This year is no exception to that rule. It is fitting that in the year, that we regained the County Minor Championship after a gap of nine years and retained the County Minor League, that this year’s recipient was a member of that panel. However this wasn’t his first taste of success with the club.

He won an U-12 medal in 1988 and he also won U-14 and U16 medals in 1991. He was also on the two Feile na nOg teams of 1990 and 1991 which visited Galway and Meath as part of the Feile na nOg Festivals of Under-Age Football.

He won a Community Games Football Medal in 1989 also.

In early 1992, however, this player suffered a serious hand injury and it was learned that he would not be able to play again, but the spirit and power of recovery shown by the lad meant that before 1992 had ended, he had restarted playing again.

He is also an accomplished athlete, a fact borne out by his involvement in the 4 x 200m All-Ireland success of Moore Athletic Club. He has given great service to both Ardkeenan National School and to St. Aloysious College during his short career.

1995 saw him make his debut for the Club Senior Team and he played a major role in Clann regaining the Fahy Cup, after a gap of one year. He is a gentleman both on and off the field of play, and he is held in high regard by all his peers, a fact shown by his captaincy of Clann minor team this year.

Ladies and gentlemen it gives me great pleasure to announce that this year’s "Young Player of the Year" is ...
