Clann na nGael

Club Person of the Year - 1998

Although this award has been presented to an individual within the club each year for some time now, this year’s presentation is special in that, for the first time, the recipient will receive the magnificent Martin McManus Memorial Cup, presented by the McManus family, which makes the coveted prize even more sought after.

Martin himself received the award in 1991 in recognition of his enormous dedication to the club down through the years and in particular his service as long acting Club Treasurer covering a total of eight years (1985-1992) and this year’s winner follows handsomely in his footsteps playing a key role in the finances of the club over the past number of years.

Having first become involved in the club with the ladies teams, the 1998 winner gave valuable years of service at that level before emerging to the forefront of the senior club in 1996 as a hardworking member of the club executive. In the last few years the financial position of the club has been healthier than ever and this is without doubt due to the success of the club lotto. However, this success could not be realised without the tireless work of a small number of people and this years recipient is a role model in that regard, putting an abundance of time and energy into the promotion of the draws.

1998 was also a special year in that it saw the club travel to the Canneries for a week-long sunshine holiday, and this year’s winner was again at the heart and sole of the planning and organising of this highly successful and historic event, and indeed its success is largely due to the diligence and attention to detail of this energetic person.

This year’s winner now completes a unique father/daughter double as she follows gingerly in the footsteps of her father who won this prestigious prize in 1990.

For her huge commitment and dedication to the club and her tireless work over the past number of years, the Clann na nGael Club is proud to announce that the 1998 Clann na nGael Club Person of the Year is
