Clann na nGael

Clubperson of the Year - 2005

The dedication of a number of individuals to the Club down through the years has seen Clann na nGael gain a trusted and respected reputation throughout the county and indeed country wide. This year's club person of the year has upheld and enhanced this reputation.

The 2005 Club Person of the year first came to prominence as a bright full forward at under 12 in 1986. He developed a reputation as an unselfish target man in underage teams at all grades within the club. The highlight of his underage career was an under 16 championship win in 1991 where he played in his pivotal role as full forward.

Unfortunately his early retirement deprived Clann na nGael of reaping the benefit of his talents for the next few years. 2001 saw him make his return to the club as a selector with the minor team.

The following year he took over the role as Secretary of the minor board and he held this position for two years. He vacated the minor secretary position to assume the senior secretary's position where he succeeded Fr. John McManus.

He filled this role for two years where his unselfish reputation again came to the benefit of the club. His attention to detail and his communication skills with the County Board and with other clubs earned him a reputation as one of the great GAA clubmen within the county. Unfortunately his early retirement has again left the club at a loss as he goes on to develop relationships elsewhere.

We look forward to his return soon. In the meantime the Martin McManus memorial cup for the Club Person of the year in 2005 goes to
