Young Player of the Year - 2005

The winner of our "Young Player of the Year" award for 2005 has enjoyed a very successful under-age career to date. He began playing at Clonown National School and had immediate success when he first wore the club colours, winning under-12 county league and championship medals in the year 2000.

At under-14 level he won county league and championship medals in successive years and played in two All-Ireland Féile finals, winning an All-Ireland medal when Clann defeated London at Dr. Cullen Park, Carlow in 2002.

He also was victorious at under-16 level as a member of Clann’s winning county championship side in 2004.

As can be gathered from all these victories, our award-winner had the good fortune to play on very talented teams but it is equally true to say that his own contribution to the club’s triumphs was a huge one. Tenacious and totally committed, he always gives his all for his team. A very versatile player, he can play with equal facility anywhere in defence but is perhaps most at home at centre-half-back.

In the past year he gave his usual whole-hearted performances on Clann’s minor team and also made his championship debut at under-21 and senior levels. He also won his second All-Ireland medal, helping St. Aloysius’ College’s senior team to championship glory.

This year’s "Young Player of the Year" award goes to Buggane’s
