Clann na nGael

Clubperson of the Year - 2006

The Clann na nGael "Club Person of the Year" for 2006 follows a long family tradition of service to our club. He first came to prominence as a player as a member of Clann's first minor-title winning side in 1973.A strong target-man at full-forward, his free-taking accuracy played no small part in that year's successful minor campaign. He went on to star on the club's youthful intermediate league side which won the club's first O'Gara Cup in the following year.

Unfortunately, persistent injuries curtailed his progression to the club's senior team but he showed his dedication to the club in subsequent years in his willingness to serve in any role required of him. Now in his third year as vice-chairperson, he has also served in recent years as county-board delegate, registrar, member of the park-committee, intermediate team manager and manager of the ladies' team. He has travelled the length and breadth of the country to represent the club as a member of Gerry Kinneavy's team of umpires. He has also frequently taken on the duties of linesman and referee and such is his authority that few are inclined to quibble with his decisions.

For his outstanding service in all of these roles our "Club Person of the Year" for 2006 is

Benny O'Brien
