Player of the Year - 2006

For the last few seasons, our senior team has been in a period of transition and has had to fight hard to retain its senior status. The average age of the team is a very young one and the big hope is that these young and enthusiastic players can help the club to compete again for senior honours. One of these players made his senior debut this year at the age of seventeen, but such has been the quality of his performances that he has been chosen as our "Senior Player of the Year". He makes history in the fact that he is the first player to receive the Senior and Young Player of the Year awards in the same year.

We have already referred to our recipient's thrilling performances for the county minor team. Equally exciting have been his efforts in the club jersey. He gave an outstanding display for the under-21 team and his high-scoring performance helped the club's junior B team to county-final victory. But his most crucial intervention was at senior level. Introduced at a stage when the team was involved in a relegation dogfight, his unerring accuracy helped to ensure the team's survival at senior level. In the crucial game against Boyle his eight-point contribution was a vital one.

A bright hope for the future of the club is the winner of our "Senior Player of the Year" award for 2006
