Clann na nGael
Young Player of the Year - 2008
The 2008 Minor panel was once again blessed with a
large number of truly excellent players. There is no greater testament to a
team than when the management were faced on a weekly basis with a headache on
just who to play where. We all know this panel was very unlucky not to be
County Champions in 2008. Consequently it was an almost impossible task to
single out one particular individual.
The player chosen this year has been part of U-10,
U-12 and U-14 Championship winning sides as well as representing the club in
the National Féile Competition in Tyrone. He has also
been a member of various schools teams with Cornafulla
and St. Aloysius College. He lives up to the core principles of the GAA in the
promotion of Irish sport and culture in that this particular individual is also
an accomplished Traditional Musician in the Button Accordion. He has
represented our club and county over the past 10 years in Scór
na nÓg
and Readoirí, winning an All-Ireland Medal
representing Drum P.T.A.A. in the Solo Music Category
This young man is the type of player who can be held
up as an example for all members and players in the club. His attendance at
training and matches was second to none. Game after game, he was consistently
noted in the higher performers of the team. He is equally at home in the Half
Forward and Full Forward lines. He has a remarkable talent to win 40:60 balls
with his dodged determined character. His commitment and dedication to the Clann na
nGael Jersey was exemplary throughout the season. And
this is matched with an un-blemished disciplinary record on the field. Never a
man to say much, but his actions were a shining example to his teammates around
him.
This year's worthy winner of the Clann
na Gael Young Player 2008
is:
Cathal Cunniffe
