Clann na nGael

Club Person of the Year

2009

This year’s club person of the year has been involved in the running of the club for a few years. He played in various underage teams with the club throughout his youth and was a member of the 1991 Junior B panel that won a county title.

In recent years he has been indispensable in our underage coaching setup. He has been one of the many contributors to U-8, U-10 and U-12 coaching on Sunday mornings for a number of years. A role that is vital to Clann na nGael. He has helped to organise our underage tournaments at the club. He has served on the Executive of the club in 2008 as minor board representative. His record in all these roles is exemplary.

However it is for his contribution in 2009 that we have honoured him tonight. Two jobs in particular standout. na gClub was organised by a moderately sized band of volunteers in the club to massive success. There is no doubt that even among the many significant contributions by everyone, the contribution by this individual was noteworthy. The other job that this person did for the club was to coordinate catering for each event that was in the clubhouse in 2009. For senior championship matches, social occasions and meetings the contribution by this individual and his band of helpers really made these events a success. After all "an army can't march on an empty stomach..." All the while they made a significant contribution to club lotto. To this individual and his helpers on behalf of the Club I say "Thank you".

Ladies and Gentlemen it gives me great pleasure to announce the winner of the 2009 Club Person of the Year and recipient of the Martin McManus Memorial Trophy is:

PJ O’Brien
