Clann na nGael ladies won their first Senior County Final in 1974. This team consisted of many of the Inter-County greats such as Carmel McManus, Mary Duignan, Margaret McManus & Liz O’Brien who captained Roscommon to their first ever Senior All-Ireland in 1978.
After a gap of several years, the Clann ladies reformed in 1989. After a couple of unsuccessful years the club captured their first county title at U.16 level. Since then the club has gone from strength to strength, with their best season in 1993. In this year they won the U.16 County Final & became a Senior Club by winning the Junior title.
In 1995 the Clann na nGael ladies made history by capturing their first ever Senior Connacht Club Championship under the management of Finbar Egan and Chairman Sean Kelly. This victorious team included many of today’s team; Yvonne Dolan, Caroline Dolan, Sandra Mannion, Diane Dolan, Niamh Fallon, Gina Dowling & Edel Kelly. This year also saw the Clann ladies win their first ever Minor Championship.
Over the last number of years the Club has had several players recognised at Inter-County Level. 2001 proved to be an unforgettable year for players like Diane Dolan, Ann Duignan & Mary Beades who captained Roscommon to All-Ireland glory in the Junior Championship.
Ladies football has enjoyed a welcome revival in Clann na nGael in recent years with numerous titles at U.12, U.14 & U.16 levels.
2002 was an amazing year for the Clann na nGael ladies, winning U.12, U.14, U.16, Minor & Intermediate County Championships. The Intermediate team went on to beat St. Nathys (Sligo) in the Connacht Semi-Final (Score 0-5 to 0-1) and Moy Davitts (Mayo) in the Connacht Final (Score 3-6 to 2-11), but unfortunately failed narrowly in the All-Ireland Final. This Clann na nGael team had seven survivors from 1995 and the 29-strong panel had trained & worked hard for that final. Well done to the management team of Mark Egan (Manager), Mike Keegan & Eamon Harney.
The Club owes a huge debt of gratitude to a small number of dependable reliable workers, none moreso than current Chairman Ray Fallon and Treasurer Breda Dolan, both long-serving tireless officials who have given huge commitment & dedication over many years.
