The following was sent in by Steve in Ohio who saw Máire at the March 10th concert in Detroit:
What must have been a booking error plus a lack of promotion turned out
to be a real treat for the twenty or so Maire Brennan fans at St.
Andrews Hall in Detroit, Michigan on Wednesday, March 10th. Maire with
seven other Irish musicians including her sister Dee never let
on that anything was unusual. They seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves
for the hour and a quarter set.
Songs were from Maire's latest recording "Perfect Time" plus her first
two solo CD's, as well as several Clannad songs. Maire with her harp
looked like an angel on stage and her haunting voice was in perfect
form. She smiled and laughed quite a bit during her performance (even
danced a little) and seemed to be really having fun.
Because of the small turnout I was able to sit right up front about
fifteen feet from stage. After the show as I clapped, I thought "How
will we get them back for an encore with so few voices and feet to
stomp?" That became a moot point as I saw Maire coming down the stage
steps to where we few fans stood. I heard her say "This is great because
now I get a chance to meet everyone." She couldn't have been any nicer
or easier to talk to. She thanked us all for coming several times. She
was extremely warm and sincere. She signed some autographs. We spoke of
Ireland and Clannad among other things. Apparently Clannad has a hard
time performing in Ireland because they need two to three thousand seats
and its hard to find a venue. Maire told me that Clannad had played at
St. Andrew's Hall in their early years. The Michigan locals said she
should have been at The Arc in Ann Arbor and she would have been playing
to a packed house. Go figure.
What a totally unexpected thrill for me to meet my favorite performer.
It was a chance of a lifetime. She's an angel.
