      WYD Logo

We have news that finally has been confirmed from the official World Youth Day 2000 web site that Máire Brennan will sing at the Vigil with the Pope on Saturday, August 19th as part of the festivities for the 15th World Youth Day. The event is to start at 8:30 pm (local time) at the Vatican. With the large crowds expected to be present at World Youth Day 2000 as well as watching on television, it may be the largest crowd in which Máire Brennan has ever performed in front of live!

Museum to Enya and Clannad as Part of Renovations at Leo's Tavern

      Leo's Tavern
Leo's Tavern, Meenaleck, Crolly, County Donegal

Thanks to a number of readers who forwarded us a story which originally appeared in a recent issue of "The Donegal Times" newspaper (as transcribed by Rocky Wilcox on shepherdmoons.net), about upcoming planned renovations at Leo's Tavern in Meenaleck, County Donegal. The proprietor of the family run pub, Bartley Brennan, said that he will be applying for planning permission to build a cultural centre next to Leo's Tavern. The cultural centre is to include an exhibition room, a theatre for showing videos and for staging concerts as well as seating capacity for three hundred patrons. One of the big attractions of the exhibition room will be a museum which will depict the lifestory of Clannad and Enya from their humble beginnings in Leo's Tavern to the present day. You can read more of the article HERE or at shepherdmoons.net.

When The Sky Falls Movie Soundtrack by Pól Brennan

Thanks to a tip from a reader, we find that music for the soundtrack of the recently released film When The Sky Falls is by Pól Brennan. When the Sky Falls is a fictionalised account of the life of the late Veronica Guerin, the Dublin journalist murdered in 1996 by the drug barons she was exposing in her series of newspaper articles. The movie When The Sky Falls has only been released in limited theatres across Europe (mainly the UK and Ireland). It is unknown if the movie will be released in other areas or if the soundtrack will be released seperately in the future. Thanks to Sandrine in France and others for the information.

Máire Brennan Concerts in August Update

It is confirmed that Máire Brennan will perform at the Sopot Festival in Poland on August 18th. We had reported this past weekend that Máire Brennan would be performing at the Beo 2000 Irish music concert series taking place at the National Concert Hall in Dublin during the same week. This report is not correct. Instead Michael McGoldrick will perform with Altan at Beo 2000 on the night of August 18th. Máire Brennan will be at the Sopot Festival on August 17th and 18th.

There is another performance with Máire Brennan taking place in August and we will have more information on this as the date approaches. Thanks to an anonymous reader for the corrections and information.
