How can I reach Clare Island ?
  • Clare Island is located off West Coast of Ireland, in County Mayo, close to Westport.

  • County Mayo has one international airport at Knock which has flights to and from the UK daily (Birmingham and Stansted).

  • Once in Westport, you go to Louisburgh and then direction Roonagh Point.
    If you don't have a car , we can organize a taxi.
    If you have a car, you will have to leave it in Roonagh's cars park.

    From Roonagh, there are two ferry services that sail to Clare Island.

Upon your arrival and departure, we take care of your transport to and from the Lighthouse.

How do I get to the Lighthouse when I arrive at the harbour ?
Before reaching Clare Island, you can call us from the waiting room in Roonagh and we will go to collect you upon arrival.
The distance from the harbour to the Lighthouse is approximately 3,5 miles.
Our courtesy run will also take you to the harbour on your departure.

Is there a Bedroom in the Tower?
The Old Tower provides accommodation whereas the glass domed lighthouse contains a picture gallery of Irish Lighthouses and a viewing platform.

What time is dinner at ?

Dinner is served at 7 o'clock and is a five course set menu. Please advise Monica if you have special dietary requirements.

 
What kind of food is served ?

Our food is based on local produce: seafood, fish and lamb and the best of Irish beef.

What kind of weather can you expect ?!?

Clare island makes its own weather (we could have four seasons in one day) and legend has it that it rains from time to time in Ireland but exception confirms the rule and you could be lucky. For decent weather, from the end of April to end of September. Equinox winds make Autumn and Winter time interesting.

Is there a language problem ?

Hopefully not, the Lighthouse keepers speak fluently English, French, German and Dutch.
