It is the intention Of the Residents Association to examine the possibility of improving the entrance to the estate. Ideas suggested include, a “Gated Entrance” this does not mean erecting Gates, rather the intention is to erect “Gate Pillars” on each side of the entrance.

Because this will be a major undertaking and will involve cooperation between the Residence Committee, the Dublin Corporation and our local Politicians and will also require planning permission, with some expense, it should be viewed as a long term plan. However the Committee's work has already begun.

  1. The Committee unanimously voted to proceed with the project.
  2. Local Politicians have already been approached and have promised to work on our behalf.
  3. Dublin Corporation have been asked about the possibility of a Grant for the project. While there is no allocation for the project in their budget this year, they will look at the possibility of including it in next years allocation.

( If anyone living in Claremont knows someone properly placed in Dublin Corporation, or has the ear of a local representative who might help this project along, please let a member of the committee know)

The Committee will be looking for examples of "gated Entrances" and will, when the project enters the final stages, offer to the residents a short list for consideration.

( If any resident knows of or sees a gated entrance that they think should be considered - again please let a member of the Committee know.- also Please be aware that the entrance to Claremont estate is narrow, so examples of "massive" proportions will not be suitable. If possible a photo of a gated entrance would be extremely helpful)

STREET SIGNS

The street signs in Claremont are difficult to see (they tend to be too low
to the ground and are hard to spot) and are confusing for visitors, delivery
persons and taxis.

The Committee are looking at the possibility of erecting new street signs.
1 At the "Marley Junction",
2 At the Close and
3 at the Middle Park.

GRASS VERGES

Another major project will be the contracting for the edging and grass
cutting of the footpath grass verges. While most house owners cut the
grass verge outside our homes it is done in a "random" sort of way,
i.e. I cut mine this week my neighbor his/Hers next week, or sometimes
half a verge is trimmed one week the other half next week. Very few verges
are edged, understandably so, as it is difficult and hard to do.

If the Committee can find a contractor to do the job, at an affordable cost
 we shall do so.

Hopefully then all the grass verges will be edged and the grass cut at the
same time, this will make the estate look smarter and will remove this
burden from the home owner.

When this project gets under way a flower and or small shrub planting
around the trees will commence and "felled" trees will be replaced.

CONCRETE AROUND PARK BENCHES

Dublin Parks Department have been requested to extend the
concrete platforms on which the park benches stand. this will
hopefully eliminate the "Mud" patches surrounding the benches.

STREET LIGHTING

Dublin Corporation have been requested to look into the
possibility of increasing the wattage of our street lights, they
have promised to do so, and we are awaiting their decision.

A request has been made to Dublin Corporation to increase the
number of "street bins" on the estate. It is gratifying to see the bins
being used, and even though they are emptied on a regular basis
they frequently are overflowing. Therefore we need a few more
bins and larger bins.

SHELL PETROL STATION

The Walls at the entrance to our estate are "unbalanced"

The "Brothers" side of the entrance has a red brick wall curving into the
estate followed by a high white cement wall.
the Shell side has also got a red brick wall curving into the estate matching
the Brothers side, followed by an old painted cut stone wall followed by a
low white cement wall.

The area manager for the shell station has been asked to look into the
possibility of rectifying this "unbalance". A request was made to have the
"cut stone" portion of the wall faced with matching red brick. A further
request was made to have the Shell side white concrete wall raised to
match the Brothers side.

Shell's area manager promised to see what can be done. Shell will have
their Contractor submit an estimate within a few weeks from (Nov 15).
Their contractor is busy repairing "storm damage" at the moment.

We are looking foreword to a favorable reply.

There was some cash, from a previous, Association left in an old bank
account. Our Treasurer Bernie Nauchton has retrieved this cash and the
money is now available for use in our future projects.

Shrub pruning:- Shrubs in the park will be pruned approx.2 feet from the
ground. This should make it easier to see and remove the rubbish.

The committee will try to bargain with Tradespersons, service
providers etc. with the intention of receiving the highest quality work
at the lowest possible rate.

If you know of someone reliable who should be considered please give a
name and phone number, if possible, to one of the Committee
members. ( see Members page)

Things to consider:- Replacement water tanks, New windows,
New doors, carpet layers, Garden maintenance, Electricians,
Plumbers, Builders, handymen, Painters, Taxis etc. etc.

We intend to "pressure" Dublin Corporation and the streets Department to
improve and maintain properly the road and footpath from harts corner to ?

The footpath and Bike lane are a disgrace. The road and path are seldom
and are badly cleaned. The road surface is a mishmash of potholes and
patches. Its time to resurface.

Apparently there is a Gate leading from Glasnevin Cemetery into the
Botanical Gardens and it might be possible to get it opened daily. This
should make it easier for residents to enjoy the gardens more often.

We are negotiating with Dublin Corporation to cobble lock the
entrance to the estate. At present the estate at the Harts Corner
side of St. Vincents school, Clareville, and the Willows are all red
brick cobble lock.

We believe that Claremont should have the same facility.

Neighborhood Watch. We intend to resurrect our Neighborhood Watch
program and we are looking for volunteers. Know any?

It seems to becoming more common for drivers to park on the grass
verges. This is turning the verges into mud patches and makes the Estate
look tatty. If you park on the verge please use your driveway or the road,

Thank you.

We are looking at the possibility of presenting a "Welcome Pack" to new
house owners. The pack should contain such things as a local area map,
a list of local area Schools, Churches, Garda phone numbers, Shops, etc.
and perhaps a small Gift. Any ideas out there?

The local community Officer will be invited to a Committee meeting
to offer advice and to recommend actions in order to make
Claremont a better and safer place to live. Any ideas or suggestions

.
Dog Poop. Keep it at home, Others don't want it.

Senior Citizens Discount. Instead of £15.00 annual dues, it has been
decided that our Senior Citizens should pay £10.00.

This year we intend to enter the tidy districts competition. We will need the co-operation of everyone, helpful suggestions and advice will be welcome.
So put your thinking caps on, remember there are cash prizes to be won.

Children's Things: A web page will be available for pre teens. The page
will be theirs to say what the want. Age up to 12

Another page will be available for Junior Teens. Age 13 to 15

New Entrance Estate Name Plate.
We are looking at the idea of erecting a new "name plate" at the entrance, something newer, more in line with the times. The old one seems to have
passed its sell-by date.

Anyone got any ideas about anything to do with the estate E-Mail us, let us
know.
