Trim Castle is the largest and
one of the most important Norman military constructions in Ireland. Work began
around 1172 and the building was completed with the central tower in the 1220s.
Its well-deserved reputation as the king of Irish castles rests upon its
imposing curtain walls enclosing over three acres, its fine gatehouses and its
25-metre high stone keep mounted on a
Norman motte.
If
time permits we will visit the ruins of Newtown Abbey in the afternoon.

transport, audio visual show and entry fee. price Lunch and snacks are available to
buy in the Café near the Castle.
Alternatively, bring a picnic lunch.
