CLONBERNE SPORTSFIELD DEVELOPMENT
Clonberne Sportsfield Committee having purchased additional land in 2002 applied to Galway County Council for Full Planning Permission to
develop a new Floodlit Pitch with a Stand & Dressing rooms, a Training Pitch, along with car parking and an access road. Funding was applied for
from the Lotto Funds in 2003.
Full Planning Permission was granted. The Lotto Application was successful, with €130,000.00 grant made available. The actual pitches were seeded in
Sept 2004. Fencing, planting, the access road to the pitch along with the new entrance were also completed in 2005.
A new application was made for Lotto Funding in 2005. This application covered the proposed new dressingrooms & showers, along with the upgrading
of the existing pitch.
A Lotto Grant of €120,000.00 was made available in 2006. It was decided to build the stand now also as this was the most cost effective way of
progressing the project. As this was not part of the Lotto Grant additional fundraising was considered.
At a meeting it was decided to hold a raffle which would help fund the Stand and seating. This raffle to be held on the night of the Official
Opening in October. It was well supported and with all prizes sponsored locally it brought in alot of much needed funds.

Lotto funding was again sought in 2007, and in April 2007 €65,000.00 was allocated towards Pitch lighting and some fencing. It was decided to complete this work during the Summer months in time for the Official Community Sports Field Opening in the Autumn.
On October 13th 2007 the Community Sports ground development was officially opened by Micheal O'Muircheartaigh and blessed by Canon Sean Blake. As can be seen from the Programme below there was an action packed evening. Large crowds turned out on this very special day for Clonberne, and most enjoyed themselves into the early hours of the morning in the adjacent Community Centre. The event was put on disc, which can now be purchase locally. The Committee would like to thank all who helped develop these facilities and gave freely of their time over the last few years. Because of their commitment Clonberne now has a top class facility which will be enjoyed by all for many a year.
