Clonberne Community Resource / Training Office

On Friday 29th April 2005 Fr. Sean Higgins officially opened the new Resource / Training Office at Unit 7 Clonberne Community Enterprise Centre. This Office is fully equipped and will cater for all community needs, such as photocopying, faxing and all other computer & office needs.
As was the case with Fr Mc Dermott and the Pilot Area, the original idea for the Community Resource Centre and the Community Enterprise Centre came from Fr. Sean Higgins. As was the case in all the other areas he ministered Fr Higgins inspired and motivated communities to work together, pooling their resources for the benefit of each other. Clonberne Community Development Committee wishes to thank him for his vision and encouragement which has resulted in this and many other positive and far seeing developments in Kilkerrin and Clonberne. Clonberne Community Development have placed a plaque in his memory in the new Office
Canon Sean Blake and Fr. Paddy Gilligan P.P. blessed the new office. Clonberne Community Development would like to thank all 3 of them for all their help and support down through the years.
The chairman. John Kearney, welcomed all to the official opening and gave a special welcome to the invited guests from the various agencies. He thanked all who had helped, including Victor Andrews & Enterprise Ireland, Padraic Meaghar & Galway Rural Development, Patricia Kennedy & Respond Housing Association, P.J. Higgins and FÁS. All had helped during the recent projects, with Galway Rural Development grant aiding the Resource / Training office. The chairman also thanked the Development Committed for their dedication and hard work, and also seconded what Fr. Sean Higgins had said - "Community Spirit was the main ingredient".
With the speeches etc over, all relaxed and mingled while enjoying some wine & cheese and other goodies which had been prepared by the ladies.

Evening Courses 2005

Business Management Course

Clonberne Community Development with the support of Galway City & County Enterprise Board commenced a Business Management Course on Wednesday 12th October 2005 in the new Community Resource / Training Office. This Course was designed to assist with Small Business setup, and to give an insight into what is required to setup such a business and manage it sucessfully. 20 people availed of this excellent Course, which ran for 3 Wednesday evenings (7.00 to 9.00p.m.) and 3 Saturday mornings (9.00a.m. to 1.00p.m.)
Clonberne Community Development would like to thank Galway City and County Enterprise Board for their commitment to this Course.

Beginners Computer Course

Clonberne Community Development hosted a Beginners Computer Course which started on Wednesday 9th November 2005 at 8.00p.m. This course was a casual look at what computers are and what they can do both in the home or office. Various packages such as Word, Excel, Publisher, Email, Internet, Powerpoint, etc, were covered.
As the demand was so great this Course had to be ran for 2 separate groups on 2 separate nights, and lasted for 10 weeks.

We would like to thank Galway City & County Enterprise Board who assisted us with funding during 2005, which allowed us employ a full time Resource worker.

Evening Courses 2006

During 2006 Clonberne Community Development hosted many meetings in the Community Resource / Training Office. Some of these included Fóarm Pobal meetings, County Development Board meetings, CECA West meetings (Community Enterprise Centres Association), Community meetings of all types, etc.
Fóram Pobal funded the Resource Office to provide Community Website setup training to local Tuam Fóram Community Groups. This was carried out over a three week period. It was just an introductory course and it is hoped to take this further in the coming months.

Again we would like to thank Galway City & County Enterprise Board who assisted us with funding during 2006, which allowed us continue to employ a full time Resource worker.

Evening Courses 2007

So far this year the Office has been used for Safe Pass training for the Construction Industry. The Committee have also met with various other Parish Community Groups who are seeking help with their plans. Many of these Groups have been put in touch with us through the various Organisations such as Galway County Council, Enterprise Ireland, Galway City & County Enterprise Board, etc.
Our FÁS C E Scheme also carries out some of its Training Programmes from the Office.

We would like to thank Galway County Council who are assisting us with funding during 2007, which is again helping us continue to employ a full time Resource worker.

Clonberne National School hosted a series of Computer Classes for parents and others wishing to brush up on their computer skills.

Evening Courses 2009

Tuam Local Area Forum

The local office of Tuam Local Area Forum is now located in the Community Resource Office, Clonberne.
We are delighted to be able to facilitate this very important service to all the local communities.
