Dear Spin A Web Team,

Thank you for your letter of 9 February last on behalf of a group of students in St. Aloysius College who are doing a website on Clonmacnoise.

I would indeed be delighted to support this initiative and 1 will be writing back to you shortly with some further information.

My very best wishes.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Spin A Web Team,

Following on our earlier correspondence I am very happy to hear that you and a group of student colleagues in St. Aloysius College in Athlone are doing a website on Clonmacnoise.

As you expressed in your letter Clonmacnoise is indeed one of the most important monastic sites in Ireland and throughout the world. How interesting and indeed dynamic it is to imagine Clonmacnoise on the banks of the lordly Shannon so may centuries ago as a university of renown, a centre for piety and sanctity and a gathering place for some of Europe's noblest minds.

I recall the lines of poetry

"In a quiet wateriand a land of roses
Stand St. Ciaran's cityfair
And the warriors oferin in their generations
Slumber there".

My very best wishes.

Yours sincerely,
