This is a very interesting twelfth century romanesque
church.MacCarthys round tower is attached to this church
at the junction of the nave and chancel on the south
side.An annalistic reference under the year 1013 gives
an indication that ther may have been an earlier
church on this same site.
The walls of the nave survive to only a few
feet in height and only the basal stones of the
romanesque south doorway which was in three orders.
A romanesque chancel arch in three orders in the
east wall of the nave is quite complete. the origanal
carved sandstone of the arch suffered damage in the past
possibly from fire, and the inner order was rebuilt
in plain limestone in late medieval or early post
medieval times.
The chancelis finely built and the doorway at
groundlevel gives access to the tower which was the
belfry of the church.
Part of the inner arch of a finely decorated
romanesque windowcan be seen on the west wall of the
nave but may not at all belong to this church
