Pupils' Diary Notes

7. Wildlife Pond and Marsh Area

In 1997, our Fás supervisor, Eoin, wanted to provide landscape training for our new Fás worker, Cathy, and the two other workers, Mike and Peter. We extended the side bed and built a pond into it.

Wheatfield Prison made us a cover for the pond so that the Infants wouldn't fall in.

This is a photo of the pond when it was dug out. It has different levels for the different plants and a run-off into a marsh area.

This is a photo of Mike and Eoin covering the pond in polythene.

We put stones into the pond and planted it up.

This is a photo of men finishing the pond.

We found old Clonown brick when we were digging the pond so we edged the pond with this. The Tumulty family gave us donations of brick.

When the Pond and Herb Area was finished, our Community Workers, Mike Gavin, Cathy Fahy and Peter Ward posed for a photograph.
