29/9/99 Jason’s story
It was a sunny day and we
were on our way up to the oak wood. When we were going past the butterfly
garden we saw four butterflies. The teacher said to Peter “ Will you go in and
get the camera”. Peter came out with the camera. The teacher took a photo of
three of the butterflies because one of the butterflies flew away.
We saw the peacock butterfly
sipping nectar from the michaelmas daisies. Its body is brown and its wings
have circles with blue “eyes” for
protection.
We saw the large white
butterfly. It was also on some michaelmas daisies. It has white wings with
black spots. We saw the brimstone butterfly. It is a pale yellow colour and its
wings have a red dot in the center.
We saw the large white tortoiseshell also feeding from michaelmas
daisies. It is orange with black spots
and a blue spotted border. Later we sent an email to Dr. David Nash who is
doing a butterfly count to let him know that we had seen the butterflies.(nashd@indigo.ie)
