Living in the Light

Living in the Light is the name selected for the outreach effort of Clontarf and Scots Presbyterian Church. Below is our vision and aims for this programme.

Vision

That Clontarf and Scots Presbyterian Church be a warm and welcoming fellowship of God's people that interacts with the local community challenging each one to Live in the Light of God's love for  them.

Short term Aims

To mould Clontarf and Scots Presbyterian Church into a warm and welcoming fellowship of God's people.

§ Be more welcoming to new comers. First impressions are vital; we cannot waste an opportunity with a cold reception.

§ As well as Sunday worship, we want to offer opportunities for spiritual and social development for all and so attract new members.

§ Encourage the congregation to look outward with enthusiasm.

§ Engage a follow-up programme for members to take a full and active part.

§ Put in place a youthreach programme for the area.

§ To become a Worshipping community, a Praying community, a Witnessing community.

Medium term Aims

Engage with our local community in challenging and meaningful ways, presenting them with the difference between living in darkness and Living in the Light.

§ Use modern and traditional techniques to interact with the local community.

§ Have leaflets and booklets available.

§ Modernise and transform transept and add modern facilities

§ Set up a trained team to assist the minister in witness and outreach.

Long term Aim

A full church that displays a relevant, vibrant witness in the community.

                                     The Light

‘On every life, a little rain must fall’ is a well known comment. Many people live in a darkened world. This doesn’t have to be as a result of drug addiction, alcohol abuse, violence at home, intimidation at work or school, depression or loneliness. Despite what appears an ordinary lifestyle, many don’t see the beauty of the natural world that is right in front of them every day or notice the splendour of city lights on a damp winters evening. They may not appreciate the blessing of being able to see, the complexity of the human brain and body, all put in place by a masterful creator.

The love of God brings warmth and light to even the darkest experience.

Later, in one of his talks, Jesus said to the people, "I am the Light of the world. So if you follow me, you won't be stumbling through the darkness, for living light will flood your path."  John 8:12
