Springfield Earthquake

Poems and Stories

Here are some poems and stories that we wrote about our Springfield Earthquake Project.

Poems

The Mine

We made a gate into a mine,
We had to bury some toxic waste.
We’d better hurry!
So make haste!

Our models went across town
And buried it straight under the ground.

The Earthquake

“Hurray! Hurray!” shouted all the boys,
Filling the air with their cheerful cries,
The earthquake, which had rocked their town,
Had damaged their school and knocked it down.
“But wait!” said the teacher, “What about the nuclear waste?
If it blows, Who knows what will happen?”

Several hours later,
Everyone knew what happened,
The nuclear waste had been delivered safely
To a disused mine.

Until twelve o’clock that night,
Bart Simpson was partying
And Lisa Simpson was crying.

Springfield Earthquake

First there was a rumble and then a tumble,
And all of Springfield began to crumble,
Homer was in the plant and it was going to blow,
So he gets on the phone and talks to Moe.
Moe said “Calm down, it will be all right.”
“I’ll send Barney over to bring it to the mine”,
Barney gets his truck and loads up plenty,
And heads off down past Springfield Elementary.
Over the bridge and down to the mine,
Finds the button and gets there just in time.

Stories

Springfield Emergency

This afternoon in the town of Springfield there was an earthquake. It was so powerful that the Isotope Power Station was damaged. The emergency crew was called out. I was one of the crew. The scene was dreadful. Our job was to move the nuclear waste across town to the mines. We were told by the Mayor of Springfield that there were obstacles in the way.

We put the nuclear waste into the truck and we drove off to the mines. People were afraid that something would go wrong but the operation ran successfully.

The Driver

Hello! I’m a driver from the rescue service. A few days ago we got a call from the Isotope Nuclear Power Station in Springfield. There had been an earthquake and the power station had been damaged. We had to take a container of nuclear waste from the power station to a disused mine. This is how the story goes.

We got the phone call and rushed to the power station. When we had the container we rushed through the crossroads and we came to a bridge. The bridge was raised. I got out of the truck and told the men who raised the bridge what was wrong. They lowered the bridge.

We sped all the way to Evergreen Terrace, where a fallen building was blocking the road. There was another truck at the other side of the building. They took the container from us and sped away. They came to another crossroads and drove straight ahead. Then they came to the mines and buried the container.
