Happy Father's Day

PRAYER MEETING

Prayer Group meet as usual on Thursday at 8.30pm in the Community Centre.

FAMILY LIFE SERVICES (CASTLEBAR)

Sincere thanks to Cloonfad area who contributed to the Family Life Services collection which amounted to £372. Your contribution will help maintain and develop important services for families in the Tuam diocese.

GOOD LUCK & BEST WISHES

This weekend Cloonfad National School says goodbye to the 6th class pupils – 11 of them. Fidelma Brennan, Maria Corcoran, Morray Costello, Martin Cummins, Dayna Cunniffe, Jade Egan, Patrick Hett, Shaun Kearney, Pauric Miskell, Anthony Murphy, Rachael Staunton. Thanks to all that have helped them and brought them to this stage in their lives. May God be with you all wherever the great journey of life takes you.

CLOONFAD UTD.

The AGM of the Cloonfad UTD Soccer Club takes place on this Sunday June 17th in Cloonfad Community Centre at 7.00pm. All senior, U-16 and U18 players are asked to attend. The Club is severely lacking in people to help out with club activities. If anybody out there would like to join you would be most welcome – No interest in soccer needed.

WALK FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

A walk to the hill of Cloonarkin will take place on Sunday June 17 at 7.00pm. All are welcome. Meet at the head of Cloonarkin Road at 6.45pm

The 12th Annual Rose of Roscommon took place in the Community Complex , Ballinlough last evening, Friday 22nd June.

Cloonfad was represented by the lovely Karen Staunton who entertained the captive audience with her charm and singing voice.  She presented herself with confidence and her personality shone through in her interaction with R.T.E. personality  and compare Michael Lyster.  Karen wore a full length orange satin dress with silver spray.  The community would like to congratulate her as she did herself and Cloonfad proud.  Karen was sponsored by Michael Glavey's G.A.A.Club.  The Panel of Judges selected Julie Scally, Loughlynn as the 2001 Rose of Roscommon.

Connaught Football Final
Sunday 1st July 2001

Busses from Cloonfad to Roscommon for the final are being organised by Francis Keane and Seamus Fleming.  Both busses will leave Cloonfad at 12 noon and seats must be booked  in advance. There are a limited number of G.A.A. tickets available.  In order to avail of this service,  Francis Keane should be contacted in both regards. Phone:- 0868379990.  Fare:- Adults, £8 under 14years, £5.

The organisers have just informed me that tickets and seats for the above final are all sold out as of today Sunday 24th.

PRAYER MEETING

Prayer Group meet as usual on Thursday at 8.30pm in the Community Centre. A Mass for Healing, followed by Anointing of the Sick will take place in St. Patrick’s Church, Cloonfad on Thursday July 5th at 8pm. Celebrant Fr. Thaddeus Doyle cc. Tinahely, Arklow, Co. Wicklow (Editor of the Curate’s Diary). All welcome.

Kiltullagh Mentally Handicapped Association recent 24 hour sponsored fast amount collected
Ballinlough £1224.51 ; Granlahan £790.55; Cloonfad £1039.51 – Total £3054.57.

We wish to express our sincere thanks to everyone that contributed so generously and helped out in any way to make it such a resounding success.

COMMUNITY GAMES

Congratulations to Ciara McDonnell, Ballinross on winning a bronze medal at the Community Games in Roscommon last Saturday. Other local medal winners included Daryl Conneally, Betal & Alma Mannion, Granlahan, Michael McDonnell, Darren O’Malley and Gerard Fagan also reached finals in their events. Well done to all the children who competed at this level.

PLAYING FIELD DEVELOPMENT

Tenders are invited for the development of Cloonfad N.S. playing field. A plan of the proposed development can be obtained from Mr. Brendan Cregg or Fr. Tom Commins. Tenders must be handed in by July 8th.

TUG OF WAR CONNACHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Cloonfad Tug of War Club will host a Connacht championship Tug of War competition at Cloonfad Soccer Grounds on Saturday June 30th at 7pm. The weights are 640kilo Div 1; 640kilo Div 2; and U23 640kilo. Please come out and support the local Tug of War Club who will be taking part in all the weights. This should be a big evening in Cloonfad.

Outing to Mullaghmore, Sligo on Wednesday June 27. Leaving Car Park at 10.30am. Booking list in Post Office. Final booking Monday June 25th.

CONGRATS

Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Nell & Vincent Prendergast, Pollinalty who celebrate the 60th anniversary of their wedding on Friday June 29th. We ask God to Bless you both with continued health and happiness in the years to come.

Congratulations are also extended to Jarlath and Ann Regan, Pollinanty, who celebrated their twenty fifth wedding anniversary  on the 12th June.  The couple have just jetted off to where the sunshine is a little more persistent than at home and we wish them Bon Voyage.

 Celebrating 60 years of marriage

Nell and Vincent Prendergast

On the 29th June Nell and Vincent Prendergast celebrated sixty years of marriage.  This was an international celebration which brought together family from Australia, New York, Florida and Texas.  A Mass of thanksgiving was celebrated by Fr. Tom Commins and two friend priests of the family.  The Parish joined the family in congratulating this wonderful couple

A Mass of Healing

A Mass for Healing followed by anointing of the sick will take place in St. Patrick’s Church Cloonfad on Thursday July 5th at 8pm. Celebrant:- Fr. Thaddeus Doyle c.c. Tinahely, Arklow, Co. Wicklow (Editor of the Curate’s Diary). All are welcome

Every Sunday evening at 7pm. Meet at head of Cloonarkin road. Walk your own distance at your own pace.

First Fridays

The sick and the housebound will be attended to as usual on Thursday and Friday. We pray God’s Blessing on all our sick and housebound.

Cloonfad Playing Field Development

Tenders are invited for the proposed development. A copy of the plan of the development can be had from Fr. Tom Commins or Mr. Brendan Cregg N.T. Completed tenders must be returned by July 8th.

ABBATASTIC for Cloonfad

Cloonfad Community Centre committee have booked the brilliant ABBA tribute band for the Annual Holiday Dance on Sunday night August 5th. More details later.

Ballyhaunis Debutants Ball

 

Students from the Ballyhaunis Community School held their 2001 Debutants Ball in the Landmark Hotel in Carrick-on-Shannon on Wednesday last.  Local girl Sharon Kearney from Cloonfad was the guest of school leaver David Kilcourse, Station Rise Ballyhaunis.  David presented her with a red rose and her mother with the customary box of chocs.
