The Yellow Bog

The Yellow Bog is a landmark. It borders the main Galway to Dublin road sides. It is situated three miles outside Loughrea. Alot of farmers from the area have a claim on the land. All the year round many ponies, horses, cattle and heep are seen grazing in the bog. The bog is not used for cutting turf.

The Yellow Bog gets it's name from the yello flowering plant that grows in most part of the bog. It is called the Needle-Whin or Needle furze and it takes to it's name because it is very prickly.

There is alot of wildlife to be found in the Yellow Bog. There are many different types of flowering and non-flowering plants, grasses, trees and shrubs growing there. There are alot of beautiful birds living in the bog also. Part of the bog was bought by the forestry and there is a nice plantation growing there now. In the past, if you travelled out and said you were from the Clostoken, people might also ask you were you from the Yellow Bog.
