Tom Walsh with Man of the Match Trophy - Waterford Glass Tournament 1977

Cloughbawn GAA Club deeply regrets the passing of one of it's greatest ever players, Tom Walsh, who was laid to rest today Thursday 28th January after 12 o'clock mass. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

Tom won SH medal with Cloughbawn in 1993 after a lifetime of trying to bring this honour to our club. He starred on the UCD team when in College, was selected on the Wexford SH teams of the 1976,77 era. He won All Ireland 7 Aside medal playing for Cloughbawn in Kilmacud tournament in 1977 and was the star performer of his time. Tom never took the 'baton' during 7 aside matches - to take a rest during play as was the norm for all players, such was his level of fitness and strength. It was always felt by this club and by anyone who knew him well that he was overlooked by various county selection committees at a time when he was at the peak of his prowess.

Tom won Junior Hurling medal in 1972, Intermediate in 1973 and after a long and wonderful career won Junior League medal in 1997 at 44 years of age. Tom was a dream to train, always putting in maximum effort and a great example to younger players.

He trained our own club SH teams and Camogie teams at various times down the years.

A noted footballer, handballer, racketball player, squash player, soccer player and a coach and teacher - his talents were amazing. He was our club's Drugs Awareness Officer. He drew up our first National Lottery Application with attention to detail, ensuring all criteria were met and set a blueprint for further applications for this club.

Sort of explains why there was such a massive turnout in Cloughbawn today! Our thoughts are with Denise and his mother, 6 brothers, relatives and friends at this very difficult time.including his fellow teachers and pupils in Good Counsel College, New Ross where Tom worked for 32 yeras - teaching and training.

Ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann! Best clubman ever...! R.I.P.
