County Champions 2005 |

Final was played in Wexford Park Tuesday 13th Sept at 6.15pm. Cloughbawn played with the wind in the first half and struggled for a while to get the vital scores when wind assisted. However they eventually got a few goals past the excellent keeper in the Shamrock's goal, Jamie Dagg and led at the break 3-7 to 0-1. The Shamrocks got an early goal and point in 2nd period but were denied time and time again by the resolute Daniel O'Grady in Cloughbawn goal and also by a very tight back line especially David 'Rusty' Doyle-Murphy. 'The Banner' Padraig Neenan done trojan work in carrying the ball away from our half of the field and into enemy territory all through the second half. Ricky Blackburn had a purple patch which lasted the whole hour (50 mins actually) while Capt. Paul Foley and Martin Kehoe kept a regular supply into the inside lines. 6-11 to 1-4 was the final scoreline. Martin Connick 2-0, Martin Kehoe 1-2, Paudie Cullen 1-2, Barry Carton 1-1, Colin Doyle 1-3, Paul Foley 0-2, Ricky Blackburn 0-1. Man of The Match Award went to Colin Doyle, Cloughbawn's No. 10 who contributed handsomely to this victory with 1-3 to his credit. Everyone played excellently and indeed none were substituted for the whole match. Well Done Lads! A great evening was completed when everyone went straight back to the Cloch Ban for chips and sausages, but not before entering the village in convoy from the Mill amid horns blasting and flags waving. |
