Minor Football v. Davidstown 20/03/04 |
This was a Q-Final match and Cloughbawn won by 3 - 08 to 1- 04. Davidstown played with the aid of the wind in the first half and led by 1-4 to 0-1 in the second quarter, having been awarded a penalty which young Doran duly tucked away past Murphy of Raheen in the CLoughbawn goal. However the tide turned before halftime when COnor Harrington and Ben Traynor combined to bring the ball down to the forwards and James Redmond did the rest. He buried 3 goals before the break to set up a comfortable second half for his team who were then aided by the wind. Davidstown did not register a score in the second period, but Ben Traynor gave a delightful display from placed balls. |

Minor H L Final v Blackwater | After a bad start, David Doyle had to leave the pitch early for medical attention (Dr Furlong patched him up assisted by Nurse Kehoe) and Blackwater capitalised by scoring an early goal and a point. However, with DD returning, and thanks to the free taking of Ben Traynor and good forward play we clawed our way back.It was a tough match and nothing was got soft - the scores were tied several times during the second half. We won 3-13 to 2-9 but only eased up in the last 2 minutes. Well done lads! Goal scorers were Willie Murphy (1st half), Mackie Sean Lambert and Peter Hendrick. Points mostly Ben and James Lennon got one as well |
Minor Hurling Semi-Final v. Bannow/Ballymitty | Played in Taghmon, having been called off on two previous weekends, Cloughbawn started well and went ahead early on, thanks to a David Doyle point and a Sean Makie Lambert goal but we gave away soft frees and this helped Bannow to a 1-4 to 1-2 half-time lead, Ben Traynor having scored a point from a free. Their goal came just before half time and came immediately after Cloughbawn saved a penalty at the expense of a point - the puck out, an intended pass to a colleague, was intercepted which allowed them an easy goal. On the resumption a somewhat similar thing happened in that having been awared a free Cloughbawn retaliated and from the resulting throw in a goal was conceded. We missed a succession of frees by different players and scored just five points in the second period while they tagged on seven. We needed a bit more luck on the day and another goal or two and a little more protection from the ref. to play hurling. Final score 2-11 to 1-7. Scorer for us in the second half Ben Traynor (f), David Doyle, Conal O'Neill, Conor Harrington, Peter Hendrick. |

U14 Football Co. Final v. Kilanerin - Replay | Replay took place on Sun evening 26th Sep in Pat's Park. Ref Sean O'Shea. Cloughbawn won 6-3 to 4-7. Two points win. This was a real ding dong affair like the first match. Cloughbawn played with the strong wind in the first half and were ahead 4-3 to 1-4 at the break. However Kilanerin eat into this eight point lead and were soon level, scoring 2 points and 2 goals and then they went ahead scoring another point and a goal to lead by four points. But Cloughbawn refused to concede defeat though facing the strong wind and several big sized lads from Kilanerin running at them. Cathal Whelan turned up inside their backline having made a run up field and took a well placed pass and took on the goalkeeper to score a great goal and leave just a point between the teams. They survived attack after attack by Kilanerin without conceding scores and then surprised the whole crowd when scoring a goal by Rickie Blackburn to lead by 2 points. The final whistle took a long time to come but when it did, Cloughbawn had won the u14 county football championship.
