C.J. Kickham Brass and Reed Band

Development Plan 2002 – 2007

Introduction
The contents of this development plan are intended to indicate to Band members and the community how the C.J. Kickham Brass and Reed Band intends to progress as a Band and at the same time continue to expand to the benefit of the community over the next 5 years.

As described in the constitution the band exists to:
• Mark important events in the town
• Provide a musical education for the youth of the area
• Preserve the traditions of the town’s oldest cultural institution.

Future Aims

• Acquire our own Band Hall
• Musical training
• Extend our catchment area
• Extend venues for performance
• Upgrade instruments
• Improve uniforms
• Outings
• Production of a Cassette & CD
• Publish a history of the band
• 125th Anniversary

Acquire our own Band Hall

For the first time in our history we have the opportunity to own our own band hall. This will help the band to focus on our musical objectives.

Musical Training

Classes are on-going. However, we need to invest in teaching aids in order to make these classes as effective and interesting as possible.

Extend our catchment area

Our intention is to extend our membership, to attract members from the catchment area of Tipperary Town itself. To the extent that villages up to 20 miles away recognise the C.J. Kickham Band as their local band.

Extend venues for performance

The band can encourage new members and support by spreading our services to villages outside of the town. We would also like to extend our charity work.

Upgrade instruments

Many of our instruments have served the band well for many decades but now deserve to enjoy retirement.

Improve uniforms

Fashions have changed hugely over the 120-year history of the band and fashion continues to change today. It will be necessary to modernise the look of the band in order to make it relevant to the 21st century and in doing so appeal to the youth of the area.

Outings

The band should be in a position to travel around the country or abroad to represent the town and surrounding areas.

Production of a Cassette & CD

The history of the band has been recorded in writing and photographs over the years. Unfortunately the music of the band has never been recorded. Such a project would be a source of revenue, however, a substantial initial investment is required.

Publish history of the band

It is our intention to collect all the pieces of documentation, photographs and more importantly the recollections of people about the band in a book.

125th Anniversary

Our aim is to have achieved all our goals by our 125th Anniversary. With this, we can truly claim to have achieved our objectives and ambitions.
