The Coach House
The Coach House
Think back to the beginning of the twentieth century to when water was drawn from the well (or passed in the outside loo), there were no light switches and the only means of transport was by foot or, for a lucky few, by horse.

Back then, the 10 miles journey from Cork represented half a days travel.  By the time one reached Carrigtohill, resting the horses was a necessity, and a stop at a local hostelry was well deserved.  The Coach House was built to provide such a service.

Today, Cork is just a ten minute journey by car -- and despite its running water, electricity AND an inside loo, nobody stops to rest horses at the Coach House anymore. But  it has found a new purpose -- providing rest and relaxation and an escape from hectic lifestyles to visitors who come from much farther afield.
