| Sr.
Pauline Murphy, Principal, leads a
staff of fourteen class teachers and a Learning Support
Teacher. There are also visiting teachers of Dance,
Speech and Drama, Tennis and Italian. The school
also has a full-time caretaker and secretary who,
together with Fas assistants, a traffic warden and the
cleaning staff ensure that everything runs as smoothly as
possible for the more than 400 pupils who attend each day. The childrens
education is further enhanced by the fact that the staff
have a variety of interests and talents and many hold
additional qualifications in various specialist areas
including Remedial Education, Languages, Music,
Psychology, Speech and Drama, Irish Dancing, Art and
Information Technology. Indeed there is even an
International Prize-winning Flower Arranger on the staff!
Music
Musicianship, Music Appreciation, Recorder, Tin Whistle,
Solo and Choral Singing.
The schools choirs have gone from strength to
strength in recent years and are regular prizewinners at
Feis Maitiu as well as participating in the various
liturgies at St. Colmans Cathedral.
Environmental Awareness
Pupils are involved in various projects both within and
outside the school. The Can-Recycling Project has
been so successful that part of the proceeds have been
used to establish a wildflower and butterfly garden in
the school grounds. Children re also given
responsibility for tubs, window-boxes, nesting-boxes and
bird-tables. A group from the school was also
responsible for the award-winning clean-up at Carrignafoy
Cross.
Information Technology and Computer
Studies
The school is one of the leaders in this field
and has been to the fore in developing suitable
facilities and teaching methodology in the area of
Information Technology. Pupils have taken part
and been successful in many national IT-based projects
and competitions. Indeed, two of our past-pupils
were awarded First Prize for their computer work at the
1999 Young Scientists Awards.
Computer Club
To facilitate pupils who are interested in
working with computers outside of school hours, a
supervised computer club exists in the school. A
wide range of computer facilities and a comprehensive
computer software library are available together with E-mail
and Internet facilities.
Educational Outings
Class teachers
organise visits to theatres, exhibitions and recitals.
Day tours to places of historical, geographical or
cultural interest are arranged together with outings to
Outdoor Education Centres.
Credit Union
Cobh Credit Union provides a weekly service in
the school and pupils are encouraged to avail of the
Sammy Stamps Savings Scheme.
