Hymn : We Have Come

Greeting and Introduction

We are now in the season of Lent.  This is a six-week period when the whole church focuses on the key events in the life of Jesus.  During these weeks we are invited to think about things that Jesus said and did, and to ponder their meaning.

We move together during Lent towards Good Friday, the day on which Jesus died on the cross, and we move from there to Easter Sunday and beyond, where we experience Jesus as our risen Saviour.

1st Reading – 6th Class

Today the first reading from the story of our Father’s people is from a book of the Bible called Joel. (2:12-18)

God wants us to change our ways.  He wants us to repent and do good.  He wants us to have a real change of heart.  A good way to show that you really want to change your life is to fast.  Don’t do it just to impress others.  If you are going to do it, really mean it.           The Word of the Lord.

Psalm – 5th Class

Refrain:      Remember Your love and Your care for us, O Lord.

1.                 Have mercy Lord be kind to us
Wipe away our offence
Refrain

2.                 A clean heart, create in us
Put Your true Spirit within us
Refrain

3.                 Give us again the joy of Your help
We will proclaim Your praise

Refrain.

2nd Reading – 5th and 6th Class

Reader:      Today we read from a letter written by St. Paul (5:20 – 6:2)  to his friends at Corinth.

I beg you to ask God to forgive you for the sins you have committed.  Please

change your life and stop sinning.  If you are going to change your life

there’s no better time to do it than right now.                    The Word of the Lord.

Prayers

Prayer One:         During Lent,

we try to spend more time at prayer, more time talking to God and listening to God.

Prayer Two:        During Lent,

we try to be more aware of the needs of others, and to share our time and our money with the poor, the hungry, and the homeless.

Prayer Three:      During Lent,

we try to grow stronger as persons by learning to say no to our sins and our failings, and by sometimes even saying no to the things we enjoy.

Blessing of Ashes

Conclusion : Come Back to Me

(Children receive ashes whilst concluding hymn is being sung and played

and leave Halla quietly having received ashes.)

HYMNS FOR ASH WEDNESDAY

WE HAVE COME

We have come, we have come,

To tell God, God our Father, we are sorry,

For the love we did not show,

Though our Father loves us so,

We have come, we have come, we have come.

We are here, we are here,

To tell God, God our Father, we are sorry,

For the times when we were bad

And made the Father sad

We are here, we are here, we are here.

Let us pray, let us pray,

Let us say to God our Father we are sorry.

For the times we went astray

From the Father’s loving way

Let us pray, let us pray, let us pray.

HOSEA

Come back to me with all your heart,

Don’t let fear keep us apart.

Trees do bend though straight and tall:

So must we to others call.

Chorus:

Long have I waited for your coming home to me and

Living deeply our new life.

The wilderness will lead you

To your heart where I will speak.

Integrity and justice with tenderness you shall know.

Chorus

You shall sleep secure with peace.

Faithfulness will be your joy
