Mass of Thanksgiving - Friday 12th June - Archbishop
visits Coldwood School
Coldwood National School Extension
Coldwood National School has recently completed the building of a beautiful
new extension which includes two new classrooms, a P.E. hall, two offices,
two learning support rooms and a staff room.
In addition, a much needed car park and drop-off/pick-up area was developed
at the side of the school. This makes it safer for pupils and parents to
access the school.
There was a Mass of Thanksgiving in the new hall on Friday June 12th
2009, which was concelebrated by Archbishop Michael Neary and Canon Tony
King and music was provided by the school choir.
Parents, past pupils, teaching colleagues and friends of Coldwood
NS then joined in an afternoon of entertainment and reminiscing.
To mark the official opening, a ribbon was cut by Mr Peter Jennings,
the most senior past pupil of Coldwood NS.
While guests enjoyed refreshments in the sun, they were entertained
by the Army Band kindly organised by Commandant Mary Carroll, a parent
in the school.
Some children from the senior classes gave a musical recital, and other
classes performed some dancing routines.
The Principal, Mr Tom Coffey expressed his gratitude to all who helped
to bring this day about.
Our School Year 2008 - 2009
The Blessing of our new extension was the highlight of a very productive
and happy school year for Coldwood NS. The children from third class to
sixth have recently had an exciting trip to the Ocean Volvo Race Village
in Galway, where they spoke with ground crew from the Green Dragon, visited
the Puma yacht and saw a film of what the race is all about.
The Junior and Senior Infants enjoyed a sunny day in Turoe Pet Farm
where they had fun feeding the animals and enjoyed the wonderful facilities.
First and Second Classes travelled to Brigit’s Garden, Moycullen
in mid-June for a hands-on day of exploring and activity.
On the sporting front, the Senior Girls took part in the 9-a-side Camogie
tournament and thoroughly enjoyed their matches, despite occasional muddy
pitches. The senior boys played in the 11-a-side hurling tournament and
performed very strongly
