About the Club...

The club was set up in September 1999, with the intention of getting D.I.T. students involved in the sport of Olympic Handball. During the season 1999/2000 the club concentrated on the D.I.T. Mountjoy Square site, with the intention of building the club from there.

The 2000/2001 season brought about an increased membership due to expanding the club within all D.I.T. sites. And a proper entry into the handball league.

In 2001/2002 the club claimed its first league victory (even if training went out the window), before taking a few more, eventually managing to secure 2nd place in the league's second division. The club also held the first Irish Olympic Handball Intervarsity event where it came 3rd.

So why Scorpions? There is another handball club in DIT which represents the interests of Irish Handball in the college. Students were getting confused between the two so we decided to alter the name of the club a little. So the club took its cue from an episode of the Simpsons (the one with Hank Scorpio). Still though - a joke gone too far?
