St Columba's Church
St. Columba`s church stands on the site of the original Columban monastery, which was founded in the 6th century. In 1152 it became a cathedral church when the diocese of Kells was established. History records that the church was rebuilt in 1578, but in 1655 was in a state of ruin and used by Cromwell`s army as a stable. It was repaired again in 1682. The present church dates from 1778, and within the church is an exhibition on the history of the site.
