This site has been set up in response to popular demand; Connaughtons worldwide had been asking if anything specific could be done to arrange a special Connaughton get-together or celebration during the first year of the new Millennium.
The answer is Yes! A volunteer committee has been working since last July and is now taking bookings for this first-ever event, which will be held, appropriately in the land of our forbears, at The Connaughton Pub, Clonark, Athlone, Co. Roscommon, Ireland. The pub management has no direct involvement – other than agreeing to host many of the main events – and the committee is organising the complete operation on a strictly no-profit basis.
The Connaughton Pub is a well-known establishment, which over the years has become something of a Mecca for Connaughtons visiting the land of their ancestors. Located just 5 miles west of Athlone, in a rural setting on the main Galway road, it should prove to be an ideal venue for this reunion. Computers and printers will be installed for the convenience of participants, and all will have access to a large Connaughton-specific genealogical database. Children will be welcome and appropriate entertainment will be provided. The adults, too, will have a varied programme of events, and it is hoped to make the whole occasion a never-to-forgotten experience.
