Mega CD

The History Of The Mega CD

The Mega CD was released in 1993 in Japan at a time when CD-Roms were just breaking into the market. Companies including SEGA weren't sure how to fill the huge storage space provided by the CD and so alot of games released on the Mega CD ended up being poor full motion video and non-existant gameplay.

Perhaps the most important game released for the machine was Night Trap. This game caused such a storm in the national papers that it became the first game to be cencered by the BBFC! Looking at the game now makes you wonder what all the fuss was about. Grainy visuals, low qualitity sound, and no gameplay worth speaking of..still it helped to sell a load of Mega CD's.

The console itself never sold a lot because of the asking price and poor software available for it. It became the ultimate set up for the elite Megadrive hardcore group but never really stood a chance in the mainstream market.
