My Own First Experience With Game Consoles

History Of The NES

The Nintendo Entertainment System(NES) or Famicom as it was known in the west, standing for Family Comupter, was released in japan in 1983 for around 10,000yen(about $100). It quickly became one of the fastest selling machines japan had ever seen due to, at the time, amazing graphics and gameplay.

However, it was a different story in the west. America had just experienced a video game crash at the start of '84 and many American retailers had decided never to stock a videogames machine again. Finally, in 1985 Mr. Arakawa(NoA President) managed to persude one retailer in New York to release it as a test. The rest as they say is history...

The New NES

In 1993 Nintendo released the new nes(pictured above) in japan and later in the US under the name "video game beginners console". It was basicly just a cosmetic change and came bundled with Final Fantasy 1 and 2.

In December '94 Nintendo finally gave up on the NES releasing its last game ever, entitled Wario's Woods. Throughout it's life the NES managed to sell a stagering 70 million units, 30 million in Japan alone! The only other consoles which had a user base this large was the Playstation(currently at 75 million) and the GameBoy(currently at 80 million).
