    My       School      Tour
Our school tour this year was on Thursday 14th. June 2001.
At  9-30   we left the school .
All   the children  from  second  to sixth  class  went.
It   took   us  2 hour  before  our  first  stop, which    was
Kilmainham  Jail.   When  we  went  inside the  tour guide
showed  us  all  the   cells were  the prisoners  were kept
long    ago.     Before  we  left   he  showed   us   where  some
of the prisoners  were  hung  and  shot.

On our  way  to the Memorial Gardens we had    our   lunch  on the bus.   In Memorial  Garden  some of us  had a game of   soccer  on a lovely soccer pitch and  some others looked  at  the flowers in   the  garden, and at the monuments  which are there commemorating  those  who died in  the World  Wars. We also saw some canoeists practising on the canal near the park.

Our next stop was Fort Lucan which  is a   Fun  park in Lucan.   We had   great fun on  the water slides and   the    go-karts. After that  we   went to Liffey  Valley      shopping -centre  to  do  some shopping.   I   bought  some  sweets and a  drink for myself.    I  bought  a   present  for  Mammy and  Daddy  and  some  sweets for   Helen.
On   the    way home  we sang some songs  on the bus.  The bus arrived  home at  7-30pm. We had a great time on our tour but I thought the best  part  was  Fort Lucan.

        Our school flowerbed.

Last  year  we  decided  we  would  build  a  new  wall  between  our  school  and  Mr  Keaveny's   field
We decided to do this because  the  fence  was  old  and  battered (maybe this was from the children climbing over it to get the ball when it went into the field)
So builders came  and  the  plans  were carried out.
Now  that  we  had  a  lovely  new  stone  wall  we  decided  to  build  a  flowerbed  at
the  front  of  the  wall.  The builders  returned  and  that  was  done
Miss Mahon’s  and  Mrs. Lernihan’s classes   planted  lovely  flowers  .
Mrs  Lernihans  class  planted  flowers  that  were  all  the  colours  of  the  rainbow.
They looked beautiful in September when we returned to school.  We  were  very  proud  of  our  flowerbed  and  it  made  the  school grounds  look  so  much
better

               Peace Poster Competition.

This year we were asked by the Lions club in Tullamore to make a poster to raise awareness of the need for peace after the terrible happenings in America on the 11th of September 2001.
All of 5th and 6th class made posters. My poster won. I drew Osama BinLaden shaking hands with George Bush and a crowd of people smiling and cheering happily. I drew flags from every country on the poster. My poster has been entered into the final in Tullamore. The announcment
of the over all winner will take place in the Bridge House on Wednesday the 14th of November.

 School Painted
This summer the Board of Management decided that we should paint the inside of the school as it had not been done for some time and the classrooms were becoming a bit shabby. We had great fun testing colours and paints before the holidays. During the summer holidays the school was painted. The school looked like a palace when we returned. Anne Daly from Mount Bolus painted it for us. We are very grateful for the time and effort she put into painting our school. Our classrooms are lovely now and they look beautiful and clean.                                                           David Mitchell

Gabhar
For the past two years our school, our school has been involved in raising money during Lent  for "Bothar."
Bothar is an organisation that sends cows, goats and other animals to Africa to help needy families. The families are trained to care for the animals and they must promise to give the first calf or kid born to another family and so the gift “grows”.
It costs £250 to send one goat to Africa. During Lent we bring money to school “for the goat”.  For every 50p we bring in we are given a ticket and then on the day of the Easter holidays one ticket is picked and the winner gets to name the goat. In both 2000 and 2001 we raised over £250. Last year we raised enough to send a hive of honey bees also
When we made the draw in 2000, Leanne Troy’s ticket was pulled out. She named the goat Zoe.  In 2001 Leanne’s sister, Katie won. She called the goat Louise
So maybe next year Katie and Leanne’s sister Niamh might “keep it in the family” and win the competition to name the goat.

                               Gardening

During our summer holidays everyone helped to keep our school grounds tidy. We put a list of all the families in Tom Doolans shop. Every week two families would come and cut the lawn and keep the flower bed tidy. All through the summer the school looked beautiful. Everyone said it had never looked so nice. We would like to thank our families for helping. They did a great job.
