Doesn't Every Rock Roll?

Dear Bonzo
One thing that has always confused me about Stairway to Heaven is the line "to be a rock and not to roll". Every rock rolls! How can a rock not roll? Could you check this out for me: either find out what was Robert thinking, or if every rock rolls.
