NEW DECORATIVE LIGHTING FOR COOTEHALL
In October 2005 a grant was received from Arigna Leader under the CLAR village enhancement programme to erect new decorative lighting approaching the bridge in Cootehall. Although many delays and administrative obstacles got in the way of the committee, at last the new lighting will be erected in the coming 4-6 weeks. Local contributions in the form of monies raised at fundraisers put €5000 towards this project
Further grant aid is being made available to landscape and enhance the picnic area.
MEETING WITH ROSCOMMON COUNTY COUNCIL
Chairperson, Angela Dowd, and Secretary, Maurice Gannon from Cootehall Community Development Group Ltd, met recently with Majella Hunt, Director of Services - Roads and Kieran Madden, Senior Engineer, Water Services, Roscommon County Council. The aim of the meeting was to highlight the various issues and concerns regarding the state of roads and footpaths in the village and the on-going Sewerage pipe laying. Cllr. Rachel Doherty also attended at the meeting.
A video presentation was made to the meeting, outlining the local issues, such as dis-repair of roads, flooding problems, safety issues re: broken down walls, footpaths etc. Angela and Maurice outlined to the meeting that traffic coming through Cootehall has increased substantially over the last 3 years and with that comes real safety concerns for local residents regarding state of roads. It was also brought to the Councils attention that the on-going road works has caused more serious safety concerns and that when completed the entire road network in the village should be restored to a standard acceptable for a growing area.
Kieran Madden told the meeting that another 2-3 months of road works was inevitable due to the contractors having difficulties with excess rock.
The issue concerning a safe footpath to the school was also raised.
Further updates on feedback from this meeting will be outlined in the July Newsletter.
RURAL SOCIAL SCHEME
The Rural Social Scheme continues and what a difference it has made to the village over the last 2 years. Cootehall Community Development Group are the organisers of this scheme locally and each year a comprehensive work plan is submitted to Arigna Leader for the board to approve. It is this plan that the local workers, Michael and Hubert work too. Well done to both men for work done to date ( in all types of weather)!
