Tomas MacCurtain - Lord Mayor of Cork

Tomás MacCurtain, first Officer Commanding of the Cork Brigade, was unanimously elected Lord Mayor of Cork on January 30, 1920.
Less than two months later, on Saturday, March 20, he was murdered at his home by members of the Royal Irish Constabulary, directed by the British government. It was the day of his thirty-sixth birthday.
