RIC Patrol Member Shot Dead at Glanmire

Glanmire village, a few miles east of Cork city.

A patrol of the Royal Irish Constabulary were ambushed by members of the IRA when they were returning to their barracks at Glanmire, a heretofore peaceful village about four miles east of Cork city. During the attack Constable Timothy Scully, who was originally from Adrigole, near Skibbereen, West Cork, was shot dead.

Sixty-four year old Constable Scully was a farmer before joining the RIC in which he had thirty eight years service. He was buried at Skibbereen on March 20, 1920.
