Attack on RIC Men at Lower Glanmire Road
Sergeant Garvey and two other constables had just left their station at Lower Glanmire Road, Cork, and boarded a tram car to take them to the city centre. A number of other men, members of the First Battalion of the I.R.A., were already on the tram.
The men drew their revolvers and opened fire, killing the sergeant and Constable Harrington. Constable Doyle was seriously wounded and taken to the Military Hospital, Cork.

A forty-seven-year-old married man from Co. Kerry, Sergeant Garvey had taken a prominent role at the recent inquest of the murdered Lord Mayor of Cork, Tomas MacCurtain.  The funeral of Constable Harrington, a forty-four year old single man, took place at Bantry, Co. Cork.
