Leading Republican Shot Dead by R.I.C.

Captain Tadg O'Sullivan, Second Brigade, Cork I.R.A, a native of Rathmore, Co. Kerry, was shot dead near where he lived at Douglas Street by a group of Black and Tans, led by the infamous Sergeant Hollywood. He was initially spotted by two plain-clothes RIC detectives and when he made an effort to slip away through a nearby house, eight policemen pursued him and followed him inside, firing as they went. When he tried to make his escape through a back window he was shot a number of times.

he RIC made no attempt to capture O’Sullivan (who was wanted by them following his participation in the nearby Barrack Street ambush a few months previously) and his bullet riddled body was found in the yard below.
