It's a new category of show jumping class geared at the grassroots level of the sport. It is widely recognised that a wide number of equestrian enthusiasts ride purely for pleasure at a level below the recognised standards of the SJAI grading system. Many of these riders compete at pony club, riding club and equestrian centres, but would love to be involved with the SJAI.

Sportsman competitions now offer an opportunity whereby these riders may compete under the auspices of the SJAI at a height best suited to that which they are most comfortable with.

The rules for the classes are to a minimum:

• Fence height 60cm, 70cm, 80cm (three classes).
• The course may include a Double-Built at two strides and at horse distance.
• The classes are open to horses and ponies, registered and unregistered.
• An animal may compete in a class with different riders (max three).
• Competitions are run over two rounds, regardless of faults the competitor has two rounds.
