Towards the end
of November Mr. Dan Walsh from
South East Radio visited the school. He had learned of our new
Website but had not been able to visit the school the night the site
was launched. A group of us, from 4th, 5th and 6th classes, who had
worked on the site were interviewed by him.
At first we were
all slightly nervous at the thought of being interviewed for Radio.
However Dan was brilliant and even before he started the interviews he
explained everything he was going to do. As he unpacked his gear, I
couldn't believe the actual mini-disc recorder he used was so small
but he told us that even though the recorder was small it was state of
the art and he assured us ithat it would do the job. When he began he
told us that he would count out loud "3, 2, 1" before asking his
questions, this was because when he would edit the questions for the
show he would easily find the part of each section by rewinding to the
numbers.
When he started
asking the questions he asked about all parts of the site, the school,
the old school, the history, the interviews with the old teachers, the
"Buffers Alley" connection and all our art work on the site. Once or
twice when we spoke too quickly Dan was able to stop and start the
question again. During one question some of the small children ran
past the Computer Room window shouting really loudly, we all started
laughing and Dan had to stop and start again.Once, too, Mrs. Murphy
walked into the room and another restart was needed. The teachers had
made tea and had cakes for Dan who said it was just as well he wasn't
as well treated in all the places he visited or he'd have to go on a
diet!
When we were
finished Dan spoke to Mr. Turner about the internet and asked some
questions about when the site was started and how he started making
the site. Mr. Turner siad that he was from Wexford town and knew
nothing about Monamolin before he came to work here and it was because
of all our work and local knowledge that he was able to design the
site for us to make.
Dan told us that
the show would go out on his radio programme on some Wednesday night
in December. He wrote to Mrs. Murphy who told us to tune in to
"Midweek Voices" on South East Radio on Wednesday 18th December at
8pm. We were on second after some singer. It was very weird indeed to
hear ourselves on radio and it was very funny to hear how your own
voice sounded on Radio. It sounded very professional and there were no
gaps or giggling. Loads of people in the parish tuned in to our debut
on Radio thanks to Dan Walsh's "Midweek Voices" and South East Radio!
